The Trinity of Hell – Did he just say that?
Posted in Christianity, Politics, Ramblings on May 14, 2008 by ChrisFirst, there was Rev. Jeremiah Wright and now we have (cue the majestic music)…the Honorable James David Manning. I find this video to be both hilarious and disturbing. Non-Christians must think that Christians are hypocrites and idiots. Thanks Honorable Pastor Bishop James David Manning.
NC District Council
Posted in Christianity on May 7, 2008 by ChrisSo, I had the opportunity to go and be a part of the North Carolina Assemblies of God District Council the past 2 days which was hosted at First Assembly of God in Gastonia. The District Council was literally mind blowing. A part from never seeing so many comb-overs and toupees in my life in one place (really…it seemed that nearly every pastor between 45 & 60 was in some really bad phase of their mid-life crisis and decided they would put that toupee on because no one will notice and they’ll think I am 35 again), we had a great time listening and taking notes from probably 2 of the most influential speakers in the A/G church today, Tommy Barnett and Mark Rutland. They, being Tommy Barnett and Mark Rutland, put together what was called the Barnett-Rutland Intensive which covered church leadership and church growth. The intensive was reallyintensive. We listened to them speak for nearly 7 hours in one day. I felt like I was in college again because of the notes I was trying to take as if they would be some type of tests at the end to see if I was listening. I wasn’t very good at taking notes though because they moved so quickly from point to point. It was a great 2 days all in all, not counting the very boring business meeting earlier today. I was also privileged to see my cousin Erin whom I have not seen since before I got married 4 years ago, maybe longer.
Marketing the Worship Experience
Posted in Christianity, Music, Worship on April 30, 2008 by ChrisI try very hard to keep my work life (music pastor) separate from my family life, including on my family blog. That’s why I have a music website to blog on (Albemarle First Music). However, I came across an article that I would like to share and discuss with many of you who actually read this blog.
I love God and I love music. I love that God has given me a job where I can take two things I love and put them together by singing and leading others in worship to God, whom I love most. In the christian arena of music, there is a discussion regarding the identity of today’s worship experience. Some believe it has been twisted into something more than what the Bible intended. Brian McLaren shares his heart-perspective on the marketing of worship. To keep from tainting the viewer’s perspective, I will wait and post my comment on this at a later time. But please…tell me what you think. Is the worship music industry becoming propaganda?
